Fused Glass Jewelry

Kaleidoscope       An arrangement of 2 or 3 dichroic fused dichroic glass mirrors forming a tube viewed from one end which reflect the image or object at the other end multiple times, producing a radially symmetric dichroic fused dichroic glass image. Depending on the angle of the mirrors, the image may have 6, 8, 10, or 12 segments and will be different depending on how the 3rd mirror, if present, is placed. Common K's have 3 dichroic fused dichroic glass mirrors at 60° to each other. Front surface mirrors are used to avoid extra faint reflections inside. Much of the attraction of collectable K's comes from the form of the housing. There are several dichroic glass books and websites showing options Kaleidoscope Heaven

Kanthal       A higher temp version of fused dichroic glass nichrome to be used when a box must be taken up to fusing, casting and melting temperatures. Beyond Kanthal (a brand name), silicon carbide dichroic glass rods (and higher voltages) must be used.

Kevlar Gloves       High heat resistant dichroic fused dichroic glass gloves or big mittens that are used to carry the dichroic fused glass from the knock off table to the annealer.

Kick       The pushed in bottom of a fused dichroic glass vessel or dichroic glass bottle, decorative and for strength. Reduces the area on which the dichroic fused dichroic glass vessel sits and provides a thicker rim to sit on. GAWH Kick-up the bottom of a bottle pushed up into the interior during construction; common on dichroic glass wine bottles. IGCB

Kiln       Kiln is an alternate name for a dichroic glass oven. A color kiln or annealing oven may be referred to with the other name. In the dichroic fused dichroic glass studio it is usually electric. While an annealer usually can't get much above the annealing temperature (about 1000F), a kiln is usually expected to be able to get to fusing dichroic fused glass temps or higher (1500F)

Kiln Wash       A thick liquid painted on kiln fused dichroic glass shelves and clay and steel molds to keep dichroic glass from adhering when fusing. The most commonly mentioned dichroic fused glass formula is 50% EPK Kaolin and 50% Alumina Hydrate mixed 1 part powder with 4-6 parts water to a desirable thickness (creamy) MAKING YOUR OWN MF uses Paragon Kiln kiln wash for the limited fusing that I do. Kiln wash must dry and is usually dusted with a finger tip to take off brush strokes and leave a slight loose coating. It should (I believe) be precooked before putting dichroic fused dichroic glass on it.

Kiln Working       Placing fused glass, usually cold, in a kiln and heating the dichroic glass to soften, melt, and otherwise form it. Warm dichroic fused glass

Kings bottle       a free-blown squat dichroic fused dichroic glass wine bottle.

Knife Rest       As shown in Warman's 144, a cut fused dichroic glass dumb bell for resting a knife so it does not contact the counter.

Knives - Knife       Most dichroic fused dichroic glass workers have an ugly old dichroic glass knife of some kind, perhaps "borrowed" from the kitchen. The thin edge and the point are used to reach in between the dichroic fused glass punty and the piece to chill small points to start separation of the piece.

Knob       Most often a cabinet kfused dichroic glass nob, but also a door handle knob. Usually cast dichroic fused glass which may then be facetted. Kuglar Oven (Pick-Up Oven)       A small oven similar to the annealer that color can be preheated in prior to being used by the artist. Kuglar is a popular brand of color
